Paint It Red vs Paint it Black

I love red so much, I almost want to paint everything red.

Alexander Calder

Contrast the idea of painting everything Red from Calders View versus the Rolling Stones Song - "I see a red door and I want to paint it black."

Red in the Taoist mythology is Fire while Black represents Water.  By covering up the red with black, the intent is to diminish or kill the fire.

Whether Jagger and Crew intended that directly, the mood of the song is the lack of brightness and the onset of depression.

Calder on the other side (Yin-Yang?) emphasizes the brightness of life and the physical space with bright colors and geometric objects in his mobiles.
